Fun and Fireworks!

Fiesta de San Miguel rolled around again this weekend - the time zips by here in Murtas...and our sleepy village was transformed into partyville!
Our good friends Carole, Pete and Gary arrived just in the nick of time, a quick Spanish lesson on Thursday - they're helping to 'big up' the numbers of our class so that we don't lose it - then drinks at Bar Atalyón as it was their first time to see it since it opened in the Summer.

Saturday brought a seafood lunch invite by our friends down the street, the starting pistol went off at 1:30pm, tables in the street gradually added to as more guests arrived.
Shellfish, Pulpo in ink, whole sardines, all with a splash of oil and a sprinkle of salt, a squeeze of lemon. Jamón carved, cheese sliced, chairs added.
Add some strong sunshine, stronger sangría, cold beers - the fridge was brought out too - and great company.
We chatted, sang, ate and drank until it was time for the kids games in the plaza, Cucañas and more fun. Back to the party, then on to the tent for live dancing and then to Bar Pinche and then on to the disco....more dancing and before we know it it was 3am...time to hit the bed and let the kids get on with it, Josh rolled in at 6:30am...what a looooong lunch that was....!!
A firework was the alarm clock yesterday - I thought I had been shot! A quick shower and a quick re-arranging of the Doris Day barnet I always wake up with - and off again.

*Thank you God for giving me stamina, and a strong liver.

Plaza de Mercado for Paella and vino de la Tierra - and the best brass band, New Orleans meets Shakira meets Pasa doble style!

They sang, they danced they played all day.
We sang, we danced, we drank all day...

No 1 daughter Isobel and her group dressed up and put on a show for us with the castanets, we arranged a darts competition at the bar, and a dancing flamenco troupe played out the end of the shenanigans for another year!

Carole Roberts shot some video footage - be warned - will post some up after careful editing!

Even the men are treated to My Pure goodies!

See? I'm not at all selfish...even I can be generous and occasionally treat the 2 blokes in my life.

Reviewing this month for My Pure and as you know I get to choose something lovely to try out.
Looking at Stan and Josh I had a wee stab of consciousness remembering they never get anything I decided to order up for them to share some Alva shower gel and there was also a Caffeine shampoo in the pack for Stan. Retailing at 8.75 and 10.75 GBP respectively we expected something nice for the money...

Not like being left out, I also indulged in a little lip service for myself with a tube of lip gloss from Alva which retails at's organic and I think a good price.
It's smooth, non sticky but leaves a protective film, I loved it especially with the strong sunshine we get here, a definite will- buy- again. Comes in 2 shades at the price, but I chose the Peach for a natural look...
The boys loved the Gel - it left a lingering masculine smell with deep citrus notes, as good as an aftershave! You may have seen different Caffeine shampoos on the TV recently, it's the latest thing and also helps to thicken and strengthen hair...whatever it actually does Stan loved it and his long barnet is now silky soft...

Okay, that's enough with the spoiling - can' t be doing with all that generosity, my turn next!

If you fancy taking your turn, browse the My Pure website today and treat yourself to some Organic, healthy goodies, you'll be delighted that you did!

Chairman Miaow

Puzzle: How did the white wine end up all over me?

So....UD Almeria only drew 2-2 against Girona last night, a lucky equalizer for Girona in injury time, we departed Bar Atalyón and went home a bit deflated. Deciding to sit in the courtyard for a bit, I totally forgot about the mangled Pidgeon I ignored earlier...blasted cats.

But I guess if I could choose I'd rather a Pidgeon than a that a bit Mengele-like selection process? Oh dear...perhaps I should take the All God's creatures approach...

Anyway, I put out 2 chairs - taken in out of the rain the night before - and Stan binned the offending bird. (The de- feathered kind, not me.)

I went to get the corkscrew, we re-entered the courtyard to find Trixie the most spoiled and smallest dog on the planet (think Littlest Pet Shop - how the hell did I allow my daughter to have toys with that name?) on his chair.
He removed her, she bounced back...after a few rounds of dog tennis, he relented and got another chair - for himself, she insisted on her first chair of choice.

So 3 chairs.

I left temporarily and returned to find the Murderous cat on my chair. Lifted her off, got stabbed by her set of sharp knives, put her down - turned around and she was back. Got another chair.

4 chairs.

Discovered 4th chair was damp, neither the cat nor I wanted it, the dog refused point blank, so I was reduced to sitting in the sun lounger, in the dark. Not conducive to sipping wine from a narrow flute glass.
Murderous crossed eyed cat nº2 decided to sit on me.

I went downstairs to watch re run of " The next Z list 'celeb' Factor" , or was it "Britain's got No Talent"or whatever......I don't know...

As Summer slips away...

I've looked at clouds from all sides now as the song goes...more so in the last 5 and a half years here in the La Alpujarra region of Andalucía. We are treated to just the most perfect sunrises, sunsets and clouds with a colour range like a Dulux swatch card!

After a hot hot hot Summer, with high temperatures and sticky nights - not to mention the damn Mozzies - August went out with a bang. Thunder and lightening, torrential rain - showing for one night only! This morning saw the best electrical storm of the decade...not here in Murtas but our view of Mt Gador and Africa- the storm was all on the other continent but woke Stan from his slumber at 5am...I slept through and caught the end of it around 7am.

This evening we're off to watch UD ALMERÍA play against Girona up at Bar Atalyón...normally we would have the big screen outside while we sat around and cheered or boo-ed...looking at the ominous black covering I think we might be inside tonight...

I do hope all these spectacular natural fireworks are only temporary - it's way too early for Autumn. Also, our fiesta, San Miguel, is the last weekend of the month. We look forward to seeing Carole, Pete and family and some sunshine is definitely ordered...

Casa Duende
is still free for that weekend, any takers?!

So, whether you planning a weekend away, considering Spain of course!, or just relaxing, then have a nice weekend everyone!
